Is The Mockingbird Carriage Worth It?!

If you are new here, I absolutely love the Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller that we purchased before Emi was born. One of my favorite features for this stroller was the carriage. Emi has since outgrown the carriage, but I am so glad that we spent the money on it. Mockingbird also sells a much more affordable infant insert though so is it truly worth it to buy the carriage? Here is my list of pros and cons in case you are still on the fence!

UPDATE: Mockingbird has replaced the carriage with a bassinet that is safe for sleep. All links for the carriage have been updated to reflect this change.

CONS

Your baby will outgrow it. – Now, this is the same for the infant insert, but it is more money than the insert. We purchased the car seat adapter and the carriage instead of the infant insert. I use the car seat adapter now that Emi has outgrown the carriage, but I loved the carriage so much that I preferred to use it. Emi was able to use it for about 6 months. Once she realized that she could roll over, it was best to have her in something that buckled. Also, she was getting too long for it.

It’s not light. – The carriage is large because it’s meant to be able to hold a baby up to 6 months. See my video at the bottom of this post if you want a better picture of the size (for reference, I am 5’0”). Also, it weighs a little more than 8.5 lbs so it’s like using a car seat with your stroller. This is really not a big deal if you are using it as a single stroller, but that weight adds up when you are using it as a double stroller.

Not safe for unsupervised sleep. – Unlike the UPPABaby Bassinet, the Mockingbird carriage attachment cannot be used for unsupervised sleep. UPPABaby sells a stand that allows you to use their bassinet in the stroller or on its own for sleep. That is not the case with the Mockingbird Carriage, but you also have to consider if the price difference is worth that for you.

The canopy doesn’t extend. – This might be a stretch because the carriage does come with a sunshade, but I would have loved it if there was a way for the canopy to extend a little further. I didn’t always want to use the sunshade, though it is a fantastic feature.

PROS

It’s a good deal. – For $100, you get an incredibly well-made carriage that is beautiful and provides a safe, flat surface for your baby to ride in.

Peek-a-boo zipper has a double purpose. – The zipper was great for airflow, but it also allowed me to see through the carriage. That gave me a better view of my toddler rather than looking over or around the stroller.

A great design choice. – When I purchased the carriage, I did not even think about how much my baby would love the high-contrast design. It was a wonderful feature that she really enjoyed staring at!

It comes with a sunshade. – The cost is not just for the carriage, but also for the sunshade that it comes with. See my previous post if you are not aware of all of the things that come with the purchase of the stroller and attachments!

It can be removed. – There were so many times that I appreciated that I could remove the carriage from the stroller. It was perfect for being able to put Emi down at the same level as Elani and me if we decided to stop in the grass for a snack/picnic. Also, I have a lot of stairs in my house. Emi was born in November, so I would set the stroller up outside and get her bundled in the carriage inside. Then all I would have to do was carry the carriage outside to attach it to the stroller. It was great to not have to be outside in the cold while trying to get her situated and there was no way that I would be able to take the whole stroller setup outside with all of our stairs.

So, in the end, I found the carriage to be absolutely worth it. It was a great addition to the stroller for my family and I am so glad that we decided to purchase it! Even though Emi cannot fit the carriage anymore, we love this stroller and she loves sitting in the regular seat! Also, we can finally use the snack tray for Elani. Check out this post if you don’t know the drama with that. Still, I highly recommend this stroller.
