Elani Is Going to Be a Big Sister

I am so excited to finally share this news! I am exactly 12 weeks today, so I’m not quite out of the first trimester, but I loved the idea of announcing on Mother’s Day. It just feels so special to know that I will, hopefully, be welcoming another little one in November.

I have created a YouTube video on my channel with all of the details of this pregnancy and how things are different since the county that I live in is in a Code Red and locked down until at least June 4th. It’s definitely different! The pandemic will also have an impact on Elani’s birthday celebration since she was born on June 8th, but we plan to make the best of it. I will make sure to post how it goes!

We have not actually told Elani that I am pregnant yet. After my first two appointments confirmed that things were on the right track, I made her a shirt so that we could announce to our parents, siblings, and grandparents.

I had already purchased a plain black shirt from the toddler boys’ section at Target and had planned to cut it a bit to make it less boxy. I cut the collar and sleeves and that helped. I then created a design to cut using my Cricut. I will happily share the design if you are interested. Just contact me through email.

We video called family and showed off her shirt to let them know that we were expecting baby number two. It was a complete shock to most people because I’ve never confirmed that I even wanted a second. I’ve always said that I would be perfectly happy with just one child. I never felt as though anything was missing, but I do believe that two children will be great for our family and I’m very excited about this next adventure. I truly believe that Elani will be a wonderful big sister.

This is a big deal for Elani as well, so I knew from the start that I wanted to do a photo announcement with her in it. I had originally planned for all of us to be in the photos, but Elani is a toddler and we only get limited time before she is over pictures so I did not want to overdue it. I am incredibly happy with how they turned out though. I got the balloons from Amazon and there were enough in the pack that I have some left over to inflate for Elani’s second birthday party. I call that a win.

I am thrilled to be able to share this journey and have these blog and video posts to look back on. I had intended to document my pregnancy with Elani, but found it difficult to make the time while I was teaching. Being home with her has made it a little easier to do things like this, especially now that I’m not getting sick multiple times a day. Thank you so much for sharing in this journey. I am excited to update you as we go!

I am a wife and mother who is taking it day by day and loving life.
